David Leichtman is a partner in the trial practice of the New York office of Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P. He founded the New York office of the firm in 2010 with two other partners in order to expand the firm’s national trial practice and capabilities.
David has tried a variety of complex matters in federal and state courts around the country. The types of matters he handles include patent, copyright, trade secret and trademark cases, as well as other kinds of business litigation involving antitrust, contract, fraud, and other business torts. He has significant experience in a variety of industries including: life sciences; media, entertainment and information; consumer electronics; and the retail sector. His work also involves monetization of IP portfolios.
David also serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors of Volunteer Lawyers For the Arts, as the Vice Chair of the IPO Committee on Copyright Law, and as a member of the Inventor of the Year and Patent Litigation Committees of the New York Intellectual Property Law Association. He is a fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, a highly selective trial lawyer honor society, and has been named a New York “Super Lawyer” in Intellectual Property Litigation (2010-2012). In addition, he is an invited member of the prestigious Media Council of The Paley Center For Media, a peer-to-peer forum of top executives designed to explore the critical issues facing the media industries today.
David holds a BA from the University of Michigan (1990), an MA from Hunter College (1993), and a JD from Columbia Law School (1996).
